A survey conducted in 17 Arab countries indicates that most Arabs demand greater transparency and believe that whistle blower website wikileaks has made the world a better place and want it to publish more cables on the Arab world.
In the recent Doha Debate, 74 per cent of the audience carried the motion ‘This House believes the world is better off with Wikileaks’ The Peninsula reported.
Nearly 60 percent of respondents in Tunisia believed that wilkileaks played a major role in bringing Ben Ali’s regime to an end and also led the revolution in the Arab world, The Gulf News reports.
The survey also revealed that nearly 55 percent believed little to nothing of what their governments say, and 65 percent of people in North Africa do not trust in government information.
According to the survey, more than half of those interviewed believe that the materials released by wikileaks are not completely accurate, while an equal number are not sure whether WikiLeaks has a political agenda. (ANI)
