Anderson selling off ‘X-Files’ memorabilia for charitiesJuly 15th, 2008 - 1:44 pm ICT by IANS
London, July 15 (IANS) Gillian Anderson, the former star of the hit detective series “X-Files”, is selling off memorabilia from the show to support her favourite charities. Contactmusic.com reports that Anderson has sold off more than 55 rare and signed items. She, however, confessed that there were a few items she had trouble letting go.
She said: “There is an FBI file that I’m a bit hesitant to auction because it may be one of the only two in existence - but I’m doing it anyway. And almost all the behind the scene photographs bring back extremely vivid memories. They are actually quite intimate compared to all the posed photos out there.”
Eric Gazin of Auction Cause said: “A lot of the items have been in storage for years. I guess Gillian has accumulated a lot of stuff and she feels it’s time to give back to the fans and raise some charity funds in the process. For us, the highlights include a cross necklace (Anderson’s character) agent Dana Scully wore on the TV show and a real X-Files case file. It’s an amazing collection.”
At the same time, the actress fears that the success of her upcoming “X-Files” movie will give fans the chance to check out one of her most embarrassing moments.
Anderson had taped a spoof audition for the show “American Idol Gives Back” charity telethon in 2007, but it was so bad that it had to be cut from the show. But now since Anderson is back in the spotlight as the star of the new movie, she fears the embarrassing footage will be shown.
She said: “I pretended to audition for ‘American Idol’ and did a really bad job, which of course they never used. But I’m sure it will pop up at some point now to embarrass me.”
