Anderson says he’s now eying The Ashes
August 2nd, 2010 - 1:31 pm ICT by ANITrent Bridge (Nottingham, UK), Aug.2 (ANI): After taking a match-winning eleven wickets in the Trent Bridge Test against Pakistan, fast bowler James Anderson has said that he and his team mates are already talking about The Ashes and their determination to put up a telling performance against the Australians.
Anderson could not have had a better start to the four-Test series against Pakistan. A devastating haul of 6-17 against Pakistan in their second innings helped dismiss the visitors for 80. They lost the match by huge 354 runs.
“Of course the Ashes are in the back of everybody’s mind. This week and next week we are focusing totally on Pakistan but, in between, we’ll talk about what we like,” the Daily Express quoted Anderson, as saying.
“It’s really so important for England to get some form in this series. There is a long way to go in it - 15 days of Test cricket. But it is important to build up some momentum going into the winter,” he added.
If England win this Npower series by 3-0 or better they will climb above Australia in the ICC rankings. Australia are presently ranked third, behind India and South Africa.
According to The Sun, Anderson’s task for the next three Tests against Pakistan and in this winter’s Ashes showdown is to prove he can be devastating when the ball is not swerving and snaking like a demented bluebottle. If he can succeed, England’s chances of beating Australia will increase by several notches.
Anderson finished with astonishing match figures of 37-15-71-11. (ANI)
