The earthquake occurred on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 03:13:46 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time ) and Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 11:13:46 AM at epicenter local time as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicenter is 50 km (30 miles) NE of Karakul, Tajikistan, 75 km (45 miles) ESE of Sary-Tash, Kyrgyzstan, 160 km (100 miles) SE of Osh, Kyrgyzstan, 450 km (280 miles) ENE of DUSHANBE, Tajikistan with the depth of 35 km (21.7 miles) set by location program.
Three days ago, a strong earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, jolted the Wuqia county in the northwestern Chinese province of Xinjiang Uygur.
