Americans prefer ‘Tea Party’ to Republicans
December 8th, 2009 - 6:21 pm ICT by ANIWashington, Dec. 8 (ANI): America’s non-existent political organization “Tea Party” is more popular among voters than the Republican Party, a new survey by Rasmussen Reports has found.
In the national telephone poll of 1,000 voters, 23 percent said they preferred to vote for a candidate from the yet unformed “Tea Party” for Congress in 2010, while the Republican Party got support of only 18 percent of respondents, The Politico reports.
Democratic candidates were preferred by 36 percent.
Local tea party organizations have sprung up in states across the US, but there is little national or state-level cohesion among them.
According to the poll, 41 percent of all respondents said they had a “favorable view” of the so-called “Tea Party,” while only 22 percent characterized their view of the grassroots anti-tax movement as “unfavorable.”
Thirty-seven percent said they were unsure. (ANI)
