American Airlines to suspend two daily flights to Japan

New York, Mar.31 (ANI): American Airlines has said it will suspend two of its six daily flights to Japan from April 7 to 25, due to a drop in the number of passengers traveling to that country following the massive March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

American Airlines will suspend the service between New York and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and one of the two daily flights between Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas and Narita Airport near Tokyo.

The two services will be suspended after flights leave Japan on April 6 and will be resumed with flights departing the United States on April 26, Kyodo News reports.

The move by AMR Corp.’s American Airlines follows Delta Air Lines Inc.’s decision last week to suspend service to Haneda and further cut capacity on routes to Japan by a maximum of 20 percent. There are chances that other airlines may also follow suit.

American has planned to divert passengers who have already made reservations on the said flights to other services.

The company said that the schedule adjustment will not affect the April 1 launch of American Airline’s partnership with Japan Airlines which is currently undergoing court-protected restructuring. (ANI)
