All 35 dead in Bangladesh boat tragedy women, kids
December 19th, 2010 - 10:15 am ICT by IANSDhaka, Dec 19 (IANS) All 35 dead in a boat capsize in northeastern Bangladesh were women and children, media reports said Sunday. At least 10 people are still missing.The accident occurred when their motorboat collided with a trawler carrying sand at around 9.30 p.m. Saturday on the Surma river in Sunamganj district, around 290 km northeast of Dhaka.
Among the few survivors was a farmer named Mohabbat Ali, who jumped off the boat immediately after the collision occurred.
Around 40 passengers swam ashore while local people rescued several others, The Daily Star reported.
