Washington, Oct 1 (ANI): American actor Alec Baldwin has revealed in his newly released book how he was alienated from his daughter by his ex-wife American actress Kim Basinger.

The story of the book A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce unravels with Baldwin finding out about his wifes pregnancy, and ends on a sad note of how he has missed out on his daughter Irelands childhood.

We were standing in her bathroom in her house in Los Angeles: Kim, myself and Kims then assistant. Kim said she had something to tell me. She seemed lost in thought, bordering on grim. Her assistant had a slightly woeful smile on her face. Kim said she was pregnant, Fox News quoted Baldwin as writing.

A moment that one would have imagined, during all of your lifetime leading up until now, would be a cause of unprecedented joy, was more like someone telling you they wrecked your car. Or that your house had been flooded.

We all just stood there while Kim talked of her doubts about me and our marriage. She was, however, determined to move forward with having the child, in spite of our current state of disconnect. Her assistant managed to sneak glances at me that seemed pitying, as if to say, How sad to have this moment in your life play out this way.

I suppose that in hindsight the alienation from my daughter began that afternoon, before she was even born, he had written.

The marriage, Baldwin revealed, started crumbling after Basinger lost the lawsuit over the movie Boxing Helena to director Jennifer Lynch, making her file for bankruptcy.

The marriage ended after the two had disagreements over how to educate their daughter, with Baldwin wanting to stay in New York in East Hampton, while Basinger wanted to return to Los Angeles.

She complained that the air [in Long Island] was making Ireland sick, he stated.

Baldwins book ends inconclusively and sadly, as he thinks about the time he has lost with his daughter. (ANI)
