AK rifles’ sales soar
January 26th, 2012 - 12:13 pm ICT by IANSMoscow, Jan 26 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Sales of AK assault rifles, the favourite of insurgents around the world, zoomed by 57 percent last year.
The AKs are also used by some 50 armies around the world.
Izhmash, the manufacturer of Kalashnikov assault rifles, said the 2011 sales were valued at 5.73 billion rubles ($190 million).
Civilian weapon sales rose 25 percent and a similar increase is expected this year, Izhmash spokeswoman Yelena Filatova said.
Production is to increase 30 percent this year.
