AirAsia set to become most connected non-local airline in India
November 21st, 2009 - 6:41 pm ICT by ANISepang (Malaysia), Nov. 21 (ANI): With the launching of three new flights to Kochi, Kolkata and Trivandrum, Malaysia-based low cost carrier AirAsia is set to become the most connected non-local airline in India.
AirAsia is also planning flights to nine new destinations in India soon.
“AirAsia is now operating in a market of 2.5 billion people and it is a nice position to be in,” The Star quoted AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes, as saying.
Fernandes said that flights to Kochi and Kolkata will operate daily, while there will be two flights to Trivandrum operating two or five times weekly.
AirAsia also announced three more flights to Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad starting from April next year.
The three cities would be connected to Kuala Lumpur, with an extra flight to Chennai from Penang.
AirAsia would launch flights to Mumbai and Delhi by the end of the year.
“About eight to 10 aircraft will service the routes once a day. The Indian middle class is growing fast. With our low fares, we can offer them a lot,” Fernandes said, adding that AirAsia was also looking to fly to Delhi, Kolkata and Amritsar from Bangkok. (ANI)
