‘Aggrieved’ Marine could be behind all three Pentagon building shootings: FBI
October 30th, 2010 - 5:04 pm ICT by ANIWashington, Oct 30(ANI): The United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has said that the shooter who targeted three Washington-area military buildings recently may be a Marine or someone with a grievance against the US Marine Corps.
On October 19 police and FBI investigators were called when six shots were fired into the south side of the Pentagon, leaving bullets embedded in two different windows.
Two days after the attack, police in Quantico responded to a similar attack on the Marine Corps Museum, where bullets were also fired at windows.
The latest shooting occurred at a vacant Marine recruiting station in Chantilly, sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
No casualties were reported in any of the attacks.
The FBI Washington Field Office’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is currently heading an investigation into the shootings.
“We believe the suspect has a grievance surrounding the U.S. Marine Corps,” the Washington Post quoted John Perren, acting head of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, as saying.
“We’d like to know what this grievance is, and what we can do to try and resolve it. We’re willing to listen to him and hear his side of the story,” he added.
He also stressed that the shooter has not yet displayed any intention of hurting or killing anyone.
The ballistic evidence had earlier revealed that the same weapon was used at each site.
Meanwhile, Pentagon officials have said that as Marine Corps locations are being singled out, extra police officers will be on duty for Sunday’s Marine Corps Marathon in Washington. (ANI)
