Kabul, Jan 8 (IANS) Afghanistan will open an embassy in Greece to help thousands of illegal Afghan migrants return home, the foreign ministry said Sunday.About 30,000 Afghans have been living illegally in Greece.
The embassy will be opened in Athens this year, Foreign Ministry spokesman Janan Mosazai told reporters.
Mosazai said Afghan migrants illegally entered Greece to seek a better life in Europe.
He added that the government had recently provided some 650 passports to Afghans who were eager to return home, Xinhua reported.
The protracted war due to the Taliban-led insurgency has prevented many Afghans living aboard from returning home.
Over 3.7 million Afghan refugees have been living aboard, mostly in neighbouring Pakistan and Iran.
