Accused of rape, Mexican singer held in US
January 22nd, 2011 - 11:43 am ICT by IANSCiudad Juarez (Mexico), Jan 22 (IANS/EFE) A Mexican singer, accused of raping a teenaged girl in Quintana Roo state, has been arrested by US authorities just across the border in Texas and will soon be extradited, officials said.The Mexican attorney general’s office said singer Kalimba Kadjaly Marichal Ibar is wanted for alleged sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl who worked at one of his concerts in December.
The 28-year-old singer, however, denies raping the teenager.
An arrest warrant has also been issued for his agent, Gerard Michel, accused of contributing to the corruption of a minor.
The singer was detained by US immigration authorities at El Paso International Airport and will be handed over to Mexican police at the border crossing linking the Texas city with Ciudad Juarez.
Kalimba was a former member of the popular boy band OV7.
