Abu Dhabi, July 10 (IANS/WAM) The mortality rate due to road accidents in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) dropped by 21 percent in the first half of 2010 as compared to the corresponding period last year, a top official said.
Accidents caused by collision, overturning of vehicles or being run over by vehicles fell by 25 percent, Ghaith Al Za’abi, director general of traffic coordination administration, said.

Abu Dhabi reported the highest fall of 26 percent in traffic accidents in the Gulf region. Dubai saw a decrease of 25 percent, while Sharjah saw a decrease of 18.5 percent, Al Za’abi said.

Al Za’abi attributed the decline to the massive deployment of traffic patrol on the roads across the region and tightening the noose on reckless and hostile motorists.
