Abu Dhabi will review apartment safety steps
February 2nd, 2011 - 5:46 pm ICT by ANIDubai, Feb 2 (ANI): The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) in Abu Dhabi has said that it will be reviewing apartment safety steps, after a 13-year-old Indian girl fell to her death from the window of her apartment.
The move was revealed by a senior DMA official, who said the department will look into possible ways to ensure the safety of children in apartments.
“We will look into the possible measures related to regulations,” Gulf News quoted Ali Bukair, consultant, policy and regulations at DMA, as saying.
“We will also consider conducting educational and awareness programmes to ensure the safety of children,” he stated.
He said the technical committee of the new Abu Dhabi Building Codes, which is being implemented by the DMA, will look into the safety aspect of apartment windows.
He added that the new Abu Dhabi Building Codes, which came into effect on January 1, permit installing grills on the windows of apartments for safety purposes. (ANI)
