Abu Dhabi varsity hosts Spelling Bee
December 4th, 2011 - 10:59 pm ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, Dec 4 (IANS/WAM) The Abu Dhabi University has hosted its 2nd annual Spelling Bee competition, the organisers said Sunday.
Seventeen schools from across the UAE participated.
The competition aims to enhance students’ spelling, reading and composition skills, as well as increase their vocabulary and understanding of the English language.
Alex Rashed of Al Yasmina School won the gold medal, while Eric Bosco Quadros of Abu Dhabi’s Indian School received the silver medal, and Isabella Chu from the Emirates National School won the bronze medal.
James Mackin, provost of the university explained that the competition gives grade 5 students the opportunity to further develop their vocabulary in an interactive method.
