Abu Dhabi holds English learning course for parents
May 3rd, 2011 - 1:12 pm ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, May 3 (IANS/ WAM) A special English learning course has been started in Abu Dhabi to encourage parents’ involvement in their children’s studies.Organised by the Abu Dhabi Kindergarten and Chinese School, the two-month course aims to enhance interaction between parents and the schoolchildren.
The move has come in line with Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC)’s strategy which focusses on making the parents more involved in their children education and learning as a key component of developing education in Abu Dhabi, the seat of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government.
Shivon Subit, an English trainer said, during the courses we encourage mothers to improve their English skills and practise the language without fearing about committing mistakes.
“The objective of teaching mothers is to create a link with teachers and not to prepare them for IELTS test “, she said.
Fatima Al-Bastaki, the KG’s principal, said that the school is keen to establish links with the local community, especially with parents, since the very first moment of children joining school. This can be achieved through orientation programmes to introduce school policies and procedures implemented in light of ADEC’s New School Model launched early this year. It focuses on enabling parents to actively engage in the various school activities.
“According to feedback collected from parent surveys, the English courses will help mothers communicate with language teacher’s who do not speak Arabic,” she said.
