Abu Dhabi bans dogs in public places
January 6th, 2011 - 10:22 pm ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, Jan 6 (IANS/WAM) Entry of dogs has been banned in most public places in Abu Dhabi, including beaches, swimming pools, parks, shopping centres and restaurants. The Abu Dhabi Municipality said this was part of an effort to maintain public health and the urban aesthetic appearance of the city.
The municipality called on all dog owners to adhere to rules while taking their pets on hikes or strolls in public areas, roads, gardens and sidewalks.
It also called upon the pet owners to remove dog waste in plastic bags and throw it in rubbish bins. The failure to take such course of action will invoke legal questioning, it said.
The municipality will soon enforce compulsory immunisation and numbering of pets through a microchip system. It will also designate certain areas at parks for strolling of dogs, a senior official said.
