A dubious distinction for New South Wales cricket teamMarch 9th, 2009 - 7:32 pm ICT by IANS
Sydney, March 9 (IANS) New South Wales (NSW) have earned a dubious distinction for collecting the wooden spoon in the Sheffield Shield as well as domestic one-day competitions in the same season for the first time in their history.
The Blues have never finished at the bottom of the pack in both four-day and one-day games in the same season since the current 50-over format was introduced in 1992-93.
The NSW (18 points) needed an outright victory over Western Australia (20 points) to avoid last place on the table but could only manage a draw as bad weather brought an early end to the match, Sydney Morning Herald reported.
To be fair, though, the NSW have been hit by international commitments with 11 players called up for Australia during the home summer.
