8 Nobel laureates say Indian, non-EU immigrant cap will deprive UK of talent

London, Oct.7 (ANI) Eight Nobel prize-winning British scientists have warned the David Cameron government that its decision to impose a cap on Indian and other non-European Union immigrants will deprive the United Kingdom of talent, especially for its science and industry sectors.
The government introduced the controversial cap of 24,100 non-EU migrants until April 2011, by when a permanent limit will be imposed.
Russian Nobel Laureates Andre Geim, Konstantin Novoselov have joined six other British scientists to criticize the restrictive immigration measure.
Among the other six are Tamil Nadu-born Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, who won the prize for Chemistry in 2009
The award-winning scientists said the step was a “sad reflection” of the British Government’s policies.
Several universities are struggling to recruit academics from outside the European Union because under the new restrictions, they have been given a small quota. (ANI)
