Making public the detailed report on the expenditure incurred in preparations for the polls, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Bhoj Raj Pokharel said Rs 515 million were spent in various poll related activities.

A total amount of Rs 540 million was received as assistance from donor agencies for the polls, Pokharel was quoted, as saying by Nepalnews.

Pokharel said that most of the money was spent on salary and other benefits for the new staff recruited by the Election Commission for the poll-related activities such as publicity and promotion programmes.

Two weeks ago, the EC had cancelled all poll related activities on the request of the Government after the seven parties failed to break the political deadlock that emerged over the Maoists’ demand for declaring the Himalayan nation a republic immediately and polls based on proportional representation.
