7 dead, 60 hurt in Thailand train mishap
October 5th, 2009 - 1:00 pm ICT by IANSBangkok, Oct 5 (Xinhua) A train derailed Monday in Thailand’s Hua Hin district, killing seven people and injuring over 60, a media report said.
The accident took place at about 4.45 a.m. at Khao Tao station in Hua Hin, a resort area about 200 km south of Bangkok. Ten of the train’s 15 compartments derailed, said The Nation online.
Train No. 84 left Trang at 5.20 p.m. Sunday and was to arrive in Bangkok at 8.25 a.m. Monday. However, it derailed at Khao Tao station amid heavy rains.
The southern route trains of Thailand were temporarily suspended because of the incident.
