6.7-magnitude quake hits Mexico
April 8th, 2011 - 12:03 am ICT by IANSMexico City, April 7 (IANS) An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale Thursday jolted the port city of Veracruz in Mexico but there was no report of damage or casualty, Xinhua reported.
The quake occurred at 8.11 a.m. The epicentre was at a depth of 167 km, some 83 km southwest of Las Choapas in Veracruz state.
The quake was also felt in the states of Veracruz, Oaxaca, Gerrero and Chiapas. An official said five helicopters were sent for inspection but did not find any damaged building.
Mexico is prone to earthquake as it is located in the eastern circum-Pacific seismic zone.
