63,000 narcotic tablets seized in Bangladesh
December 14th, 2011 - 9:47 pm ICT by IANSDhaka, Dec 14 (IANS) Around 63,000 narcotic tablets that were being smuggled from Myanmar were seized Wednesday in the port city of Cox’s Bazar by the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
The yaba tablets — a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine — were seized from a gang of smugglers in the Naf river, the Daily Star reported.
The coast guard personnel intercepted three motor-boats around 5 a.m. However, the smugglers threw a packet containing the tablets into the river to divert the troops and fled towards the Myanmar border.
The estimated price of the tablets is around 31,500,000 taka (around $408,800), a coast guard statement said.
