44 killed in China floods
June 10th, 2011 - 7:12 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, June 10 (IANS) Floods triggered by torrential rains deluged central and eastern regions of China Thursday night and Friday, killing at least 44 people, officials said.
At least 33 people were still missing in the provinces of Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi, Xinhua reported.
Torrential rains triggered floods and landslides that toppled homes and destroyed river embankments in Hubei, the provincial flood control office said.
Nearly 100,000 people were stranded by floods in three Xianning counties.
