40 cars collide in Germany, 10 dead
April 9th, 2011 - 4:59 am ICT by IANSBerlin, April 9 (IANS) Around 40 cars collided on a highway leading to a German port city, killing at least 10 people and injuring 97, police said.
The highway pile-up took place south of the port city of Rostock Friday, Xinhua reported.
Three trucks were also involved in the pileup, police said.
About 20 vehicles, including a truck carrying inflammable material, caught fire after the accident.
Police blamed a sandstorm for the pile-up, as it reduced visibility on the highway to less than 100 metres.
