Baghdad, April 30 (Xinhua) The death toll in clashes between the Shia militia and the US-backed Iraqi forces in the capital’s Sadr City area climbed to more than 300 in April, sources said Wednesday. Women and children were among the victims of the clashes in the stronghold of Mahdi army militia, loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, the sources told Xinhua.
Up to 321 people were killed and some 834 wounded in the clashes in the slum of Sadr City in April, according to the ministry database.
US and Iraqi military action in the Sadr City sparked intense violence in the wake of an uprising by the Mahdi militia.
