Geneva, May 26 (DPA) A UN official in Pakistan said Tuesday the ongoing military campaign in the north-west of the country has created the worst displacement problem since the country’s independence.
“The last time Pakistan faced such a displacement was during independence, in 1947,” said Khalif Bile Mohamed, the World Health Organization representative in the Asian country.
He was talking to journalists in Geneva via teleconference.
UN estimates say about 2.9 million people are displaced in the country, with about 550,000 having fled their homes last year and the rest since May 2.
