Mexico City, Sep 23 (EFE) Authorities in the eastern Mexican city of Cancun have dismissed 28 policemen, including the majority of the force’s command officers, for poor performance, official sources said.
They lost their jobs “for not getting good results in their work and for having completely lost the trust that had been placed in them”, a source with the public safety office of the coastal city said Tuesday.

The expelled officers include the escorts of Cancun’s former secretary of public safety and transit, Francisco Velasco Delgado, who faces charges in the February murder of Mauro Enrique Tello, a retired general, the media said.

The murder led to the arrest of six officials and police officers of Quintana Roo, the state where the Caribbean seaside resort is located.

The sacked officials have been replaced by new ones having “excellent” track records, the sources said.
