Damascus, Sep 7 (IANS/AKI) At least 23 bodies of victims of a suspected mass execution have been found near the Syrian capital, Al Jazeera reported.

The bodies were found in the town of Zamelka.

Anti-government activists have been reporting incidents of executions carried out by Syrian government forces.

Earlier, the Syrian Human Rights Network reported that eight people died in violence Thursday. A report by the DPA news agency said 10 people died in fighting between government forces and rebels in Damascus.

More than 26,000 people have died in violence since the start of protests in March 2011.

Western countries have slapped sanctions on Syria for carrying out indiscriminate violence on its own citizens. The Syrian government blames “terrorists” backed by foreign governments for the violence.
