200 NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan in 2011

Kabul, May 27 (IANS) Taliban-linked militancy has claimed the lives of 200 soldiers working with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) this year, Xinhua reported.
“An ISAF service member died following an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan today (Friday),” said a press release issued by the military alliance here Friday.
Although the statement did not reveal the nationality of the victim, troops mostly from the US, Britain, Canada and Australia are stationed in the southern region where the Taliban are active.
Eight NATO soldiers - all Americans - were killed in the region Thursday, the military alliance said.
According to iCasualties - a website tracking the casualties of the US-led war on terror - the fatalities of the NATO coalition had reached 199 with the loss of the eight US soldiers Thursday. With Friday’s fatality, the alliance has lost 200 people.
Of the 199 service members killed, 140 were Americans.
