Islamabad, June 9 (IANS) At least 20 Islamists and security personnel were killed when rebels attacked a checkpost Thursday in Pakistan’s tribal region bordering Afghanistan, Xinhua reported.
About 25 militants — most likely from Afghanistan — stormed the checkpost in Makeen in South Waziristan, killing eight security personnel and injuring 12 others, it quoted Dunya TV as saying.
In retaliation, the security forces killed 12 militants, the report said. The clash was still going on.
Waziristan is known to be a hotbed of Taliban and Al Qaeda militants.
