18,000 drug suspects arrested in China
June 10th, 2011 - 7:47 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, June 10 (IANS) Around 16,000 narcotics cases were reported to police in China this year leading to the arrest of 18,000 suspects, the ministry of public security said Friday.
During the crackdown, police confiscated around 1.3 tonnes of heroin and 1.9 tonnes of methamphetamine hydrochloride, popularly known as “ice”, 1.2 tonnes of ketamine, and 215.8 tonnes of drug-making chemicals, Xinhua reported.
A total of 68,541 drug users were found and over 33,000 attended correction programmes across the country this year.
