London, May 10 (ANI): Noemi Letizia, the 18-year-old accused of being at the heart of Silvio Berlusconi’s divorce, has claimed that the Italian prime minister will launch her into a career in politics.

Letizia, who affectionately calls Berlusconi “Papi”, came under media glare after Veronica Lario, the Italian leader’s wife, announced their divorce with the words, “I cannot be with a man who spends time with under-age women”.

The buzz started that Belusconi had attended the teenager’s 18th birthday party last weekend, presenting her with a gold and diamond necklace. The visit infuriated his wife.

However, in an earlier interview, Letizia denied having an “inappropriate relationship” with Berlusconi, reports The Times.

Now, the lingerie model, has said that she wants to stand for parliament.

“Papi [Daddy] Silvio will fix it,” declared Letizia, in an interview with an Italian newspaper.

Letizia said of Berlusconi, 72: “Papi brought me up. He’s always been kind to me. One year he gave me a little diamond; another time, a small necklace.” For her birthday two weeks ago he gave her a gold necklace and pendant studded with diamonds.

“I adore him,” she told La Repubblica newspaper.

“He calls me, he tells me he has some free time and I join him in Milan or Rome. I stay there listening to him. That’s what he wants from me. Then we sing together,” she added.

Asked whether she hoped to stand in forthcoming regional elections, she replied: “No. I’d prefer to stand for the lower house of parliament. Papi Silvio will fix it.” (ANI)
