17 Florida Schools on Lockdown After ‘Credible Threat’

Nov 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Seventeen Florida schools, which includes all of the schools in Broward County, have been placed on lockdown today because of what is being described as a ‘credible threat’.

The Deputy City Attorney for Pembroke Pines, Julie Klahr reported to ‘CNN” that the action was requested by the police and was not just put in place by the school system’s administrative offices. Seventeen of the county’s 231 traditional schools, 69 charters, and 1 virtual classrooms have been placed under the lockdown. Pembroke Pines is approximately 20 miles to the northwest of Miami, Florida.

The Pembroke Pines Police Department revealed that a “possible threat” was received this morning at 8:40 “”in reference to the schools within the city of Pembroke Pines. Although this possible threat has not been confirmed, as a precaution the Broward County Schools and Pembroke Pines Charter Schools are on lockdown. An e-mail was also sent stating that ’something big was going to happen’ around government buildings in Broward County. The Broward Sheriff’s Office, Broward Schools and other Broward County agencies have been notified.”
