16 pro-Taliban militants killed in SwatNovember 14th, 2007 - 10:31 pm ICT by admin
Peshawar, Nov 14 (ANI): At least 16 pro-Taliban militants were killed when Pakistan Army gunship helicopters and artillery pounded their hideouts in the Swat district of the North West frontier province (NWFP).
The army said that they struck rebel dens in different areas of Swat.
“Helicopters were used in the operation. They shelled known militant positions on hill tops,” Military Spokesman, Major General Waheed Arshad, said.
“Troops have been deployed in the area and will be moved when needed,” he said.
A military statement said artillery was also used.
Six militants were killed and a large number injured in the Shangla area of the scenic valley and 10 others were killed in separate incidents, Arshad said.
Troops also arrested four militants carrying radio sets and grenades, he added.
“They are hardcore elements who were arrested after their messages were intercepted. We are investigating further their links,” The News quoted Arshad, as saying. (ANI)
