16 footballers arrested for gang rape in Australia
October 27th, 2009 - 12:15 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Melbourne, Oct 27 (IANS) Sixteen men, reportedly suburban league footballers, have been arrested for the gang rape of two women earlier this month.
The men, aged between 17 and 20, were taken into custody after raids on four properties in Montmorency, Bundoora and Briar Hill at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, The Age reported.
The two women were sexually assaulted at Phillip Island Oct 10.
Detective Inspector Glenn Davies said violence against women would not be tolerated.
“I encourage all women who are victims of sexual assault to report these offences to police,” he was quoted as saying.
