1,500 policemen to secure India-Aussie Test venue in Bangalore

Bangalore, Oct 8 (IANS) In the light of the recent bomb blasts in Bangalore and other Indian cities, about 1,500 Karnataka police personnel will be on duty during the first India-Australia cricket Test beginning at the Chinnaswamy stadium here Thursday.Everyone entering the 55,000-capacity stadium in the heart of Bangalore will have to go through a metal detector door and body search, a senior police official said.

Dog squads, bomb disposal squads, ambulances and fire tenders are also on duty at the stadium and also at the hotels where the two teams are staying.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association has installed closed circuit television (CCTVs) cameras at the stadium on the advice of the Bangalore police.

Ahead of the Test, a small group of fans of batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar Wednesday organised a pooja for Hindu god Mrityunjaya - conqueror of death - near the stadium for the success of their idol.
