14 killed in China quake
March 10th, 2011 - 5:34 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, March 10 (IANS) At least 14 people were killed and 135 injured Thursday as a 5.8-magnitude earthquake rocked southwest China’s Yunnan province, Xinhua reported.
The quake that occurred at 12.58 a.m. jolted Yingjiang county, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicentre, with a depth of 10 kilometres, was monitored at 24.7 degrees north latitude and 97.9 degrees east longitude, the centre said.
The quake caused heavy damage in Yingjiang as the epicentre is only about three kilometres away from the county, the report said.
Authorities said that it initiated a grade III emergency response after the quake and dispatched a team of experts to the quake zone.
