Sydney, March 4 (IANS) A man in Australia met with a rude shock after he walked into a cafe for a $60 meal but walked out with a $1,380 bill and a sour taste in his mouth.

Grant King, a Merrimac resident, had dined at the popular Surfers Paradise attraction Feb 23. He paid for the $60 experience using a direct debit card. By Monday, he had been billed 23 times.

King said he felt sick after checking his bank account.

“I thought ‘what the hell’, I’m going on a holiday to Canada in 12 days to see my three-year-old son who lives there,” Courier Mail. com.au quoted King telling The Gold Coast Bulletin.

The Hard Rock Cafe will be forced to pay back this week thousands of dollars after a glitch with software since Feb 23 left some diners with multiple charges.

One woman said Thursday said she had been charged $3,500.

A spokesperson for the Hard Rock Cafe, meanwhile, confirmed the glitch and said patrons would be reimbursed.
