- Bogota, July 18 (EFE) Thirteen leftist rebels were killed in fighting with the security forces in central Colombia, a media report said.
The fighting between Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the country’s largest rebel group, and the security forces took place in the central Meta province Friday.
The Colombian forces have also found a deserted rebels’ camp that was run by FARC military chief Jorge Briceno Suarez, the El Tiempo daily said.
The group has fought with successive Colombian governments since mid-1960s, and is thought to have about 9,000 fighters.
