13 dead, 86 hurt in Uzbekistan earthquake
July 20th, 2011 - 11:22 pm ICT by IANSTashkent, July 20 (IANS) At least 13 people died and 86 were injured in Uzbekistan after an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border area overnight Tuesday, said the Uzbek Emergency Ministry Wednesday.
In Fergana city, several old buildings destroyed. At least 35 of the injured people were hospitalized, Xinhua quoted the Uzbek ministry as saying.
The quake, that occurred at 1935 GMT Tuesday, had its epicentre inside neighbouring Kyrgyzstan, 42 km southwest of Fergana, the US Geological Survey said.
However, no report on the casualties in Kyrgyzstan were available till last report.
