12 security personnel die in Karachi attack

Karachi, May 23 (IANS) At least 12 security personnel were killed in the terror attack that began Sunday night at a naval air base in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi, Xinhua cited a TV channel as reporting.
A police official was quoted as saying that that the number of security personnel killed in the brazen attack on PNS Mehran has reached 12.
The on-going battle between militants and security personnel, including commandos, has been on since about 10.30 p.m. Sunday.
Fifteen bomb explosions have taken place at the heavily-guarded naval facility since the attack started.
The Sunday night attack comes within three weeks of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden being gunned down May 2 in Abbottabad by US commandos. The Taliban had vowed retaliation.
