Lima, Aug 29 (IANS/EFE) At least 12 people were killed when two buses collided head-on in Peru’s northern Cajamarca region, local media reported.
The accident occurred Saturday on the road leading to Ciudad de Dios town, RPP radio said.

Traffic accidents in Peru take over 3,000 lives each year. Unlicensed, unregulated transport companies that run an aging fleet of buses and roads in bad state of repair often lead to deadly accidents.

According to data from Peru’s transport ministry, in 2008 alone some 3,489 people were killed and another 52,929 were injured in over 85,000 accidents.
