11 militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Aug 6 (IANS) Eleven Taliban militants were killed in fighting with the security forces in Afghanistan, Xinhua reported Saturday.
Twenty-four militants were captured in the operation in the past 24 hours till Saturday evening.
The operation was jointly launched by police, the Afghan army and NATO-led forces, the interior ministry said.
Over half a dozen places in the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand and Nimroz, among others, and the surrounding areas of Kabul, were targeted, the ministry said.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized from the militants.
Taliban have stepped up their activities since launching a spring offensive in May against the Afghan and NATO-led forces in Afghanistan.
