11 killed as bus plunges into Caribbean Sea
February 14th, 2010 - 5:42 pm ICT by IANSSanto Domingo, Feb 14 (IANS/EFE) Eleven people were killed and 15 injured when a bus in which they were travelling plunged into the Caribbean Sea off the Dominican Republic.
The accident occurred Friday evening when the bus carrying 29 people was moving on the Las Americas expressway, which connects Santo Domingo with the eastern part of the island nation, official said.
The deceased included the bus driver, women and a child, the official said adding that 15 people were injured in the accident.
Witnesses told local media that the accident took place after the bus driver lost control over the vehicle while taking over another vehicle.
The bus conductor said that the bus needed repair, according to civil-defence director Luis Luna Paulino.
