100 mn learning Chinese overseas
July 29th, 2011 - 4:24 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, July 29 (IANS) The number of overseas Chinese learners rose to 100 million by the end of last year, a media report said Friday.
People’s Daily said that Chinese has become the fastest-growing language in terms of number of learners.
Some experts are of the opinion that the number of overseas Chinese learners will reach 150 million at the end of 2013, it said.
The demand for those teaching Chinese as a foreign language has gone up and the shortage of the teachers is now over five million.
