100 kids injured in China school stampede (Lead)
November 29th, 2010 - 2:17 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Nov 29 (IANS) Nearly 100 children were injured Monday in a stampede at a primary school in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in northwest China, officials said.
The incident occurred in the No.5 primary school in Aksu city, when the children were heading downstairs to the playground for after-class exercises. Some of the students fell and triggered the stampede around 12.00 p.m., Xinhua reported quoting a spokesman with the municipal publicity department.
The injured students were immediately taken to hospital. There were, however, no casualties, the official said.
The primary school has more than 1,800 students.
