10 killed in fresh Karachi violence

Islamabad, July 22 (IANS) Ten people were killed and 16 others were injured Friday in fresh violence in Karachi following a brief calm in the city, a media report said.

The fatalites occurred when two rival groups exchanged fire in Malir and Landhi areas of the port city. The violence ended four days of calm in the city, the Geo TV reported.

Police said the firing, which started Friday morning, continued for several hours.

The injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital.

Scores of people were killed and injured in target killings and street violence over the past week in Karachi.

Security was beefed up in the city after the fresh clashes.
