April 2nd, 2011 - 12:54 pm ICT by IANSMexico city, April 2 (IANS/EFE) At least 10 people were killed in a shooting incident at a bar in a northern Mexican border city.
The incident occurred at around 10.00 p.m. (local time) Thursday, when gunmen travelling in three vehicles entered the El Castillo bar on the east side of Juarez - just across the border from El Paso, Texas - and began firing indiscriminately at those inside, said municipal officials said Friday.
Over 100 shell casings were found at the crime scene.
Seven men and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene and two other men died in the wee hours of Friday at a hospital in Ciudad Juarez, Arturo Sandoval, said spokesman for the Chihuahua state Attorney General’s Office.
About 300 bars and 4,000 food establishments have closed in Ciudad Juarez since 2009 because of the violence in the city, says the Restaurant and Prepared Foods Industry Association.
Ciudad Juárez, a city and seat of the municipality of Juárez in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, has an estimated population of 1.5 million people. It is also known as Juárez.
